NYC Food Truck Lunch: Torta Milanesa From Tacos Y Quesadillas Mexico
Perry, the founder of New York Street Food, brings you his latest review on New York City street food.
If you're looking to spice up your everyday sandwich, the Torta Milanesa from Tacos Y Quesadillas Mexico could do the trick. Not only will it tickle your taste buds, but at $6, it's good to your wallet, too.
There are two Tacos Y Quesadillas carts in midtown, one on 53rd St between Broadway & 7th Ave and one on 9th Ave between 58th & 59th St. Both carts have been around for at least a few years, and even on this cold day, there were 5 people ahead of us, and a couple of people came up behind us after we orderred
For the uninitiated, a torta is a Mexican sandwich. Here you have your choice of meat plus some of the usual and some less common toppings. We got it with milanesa de pollo, a chicken cutlet that was pounded thin, breaded and fried.
Along with the chicken cutlet are shredded lettuce, tomato, sliced jalapeños, two slices of a mild Mexican cheese, and a thin layer of refried beans under the meat.
The sliced jalapeños gave the sandwich an immediate kick, and the refried beans added a depth of flavor missing in many deli sandwiches.
With an extra serving of spiciness on the torta, the shredded lettuce and tomato were cool and refreshing.
Most people ordering here got tacos or burritos (which looked good too), but we were quite happy with the torta milanesa de pollo. Beef milanesa instead of chicken is available too, if you prefer.
Tacos Y Quesadillas Mexico do not seem to do social media or have a website, but you can see their menu here. Tacos Y Quesadillas Mexico is one of those street vendors that bring you the authentic food of their homeland...and make living and working in NYC better than anywhere else.
