NYC Food Truck Lunch: Basil Chicken & Dumplings From Luckyim Thai

Perry, the founder of New York Street Food, brings you his latest review on New York City street food.

We've been seeing a new Thai food truck around called Luckyim Thai. A few days ago, we got a chance to try them out.

The menu has pad thai and a few other noodle dishes, a daily special with chicken in your choice of three sauces and three types of rice, and basil chicken. We got the basil chicken over white rice, but they also have basil chicken fried rice. Both were $8.

Because we can never resist them, we also ordered dumplings, which come 5 for $4. They can be either steamed or fried, and we opted for steamed.

The dumplings were ground pork with chives in an eggy wrapper. Each order comes with a sweet vinegar sauce for dipping. The dumplings were good alone, but they were even better with the dipping sauce.

Basil chicken came with thinly-sliced white meat chicken in a spicy, light, brown sauce. In the sauce were basil leaves, which came through right away, lots of minced garlic, red and green bell peppers, onions and red pepper flakes. The sauce started out a little spicy, but by the end of the meal, the spiciness had increased quite a bit.

Lunch from Luckyim Thai was quite tasty. The dumplings were excellent, and we enjoyed the basil chicken. If you don't like spicy food, we would recommend getting a different dish, but the quality of the food at Luckyim Thai is good.

You can find the Luckyim Thai truck on Twitter here and on Facebook here.
