NYC Councilman Wants Curbs Painted Red In No-Parking Areas
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A city lawmaker wants to clear up the confusion in no-parking zones.
Councilman Vincent Gentile's bill would require the city to paint curbs red to indicate no-parking areas at fire hydrants and bus stops.

For example, parking is prohibited within 15 feet on either side of a fire hydrant, and the Brooklyn Democrat said the paint would eliminate guesswork for the public and traffic agents.
"New Yorkers usually don't carry a tape measure with them to measure how far away they are from a hydrant or whether they're within a bus stop," Gentile said. "Why can't we go back to what we used to have and revive the old system where you actually paint the curb by the fire hydrant or the bus stop, showing where you cannot park?"
Motorists React To Proposal Requiring City Paint Curbs Red In No Parking Zones
Motorists had mixed feelings about the proposal.
One man, named Mike, believes traffic agents should use common sense.
"A traffic agent sees that it's too close, he should give a ticket by practicality, not by measurement exactly," Mike said. "It shouldn't be so cut-and-dry."
A deliveryman said he welcomes the painted curbs.
"I would love that, not only for me but (so) other motorists out there are aware of what's going on," he said.
