NYC Correction Officer Arrested On Drug Charges
NEW YORK (AP) -- A New York City correction officer has been charged with trying to sell tobacco and prescription pills to inmates.
Officer Clarence Carrier was arrested Friday by the city Department of Investigation.
Authorities said he was carrying 30 Suboxone pills and eight pouches of tobacco that he planned to sell to Rikers Island inmates.
Suboxone is a controlled substance that is used to treat addiction to heroin and other opiates.
The 45-year-old correction officer was arrested on charges including drug possession and promoting prison contraband.
He was suspended from his job Friday. A number for Carrier was not listed. No information on an attorney for him was available.
