NYC Announces Plans For 2 New Food Markets Near South Street Seaport
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Three years ago, it was just a vision. But now, it's becoming a reality.
City Council Speaker Christine Quinn unveiled plans for two new year-round food markets around the South Street Seaport.
"Our vision was of a market that would be a destination for residents, for tourists of every income," Quinn told reporters, including 1010 WINS' Stan Brooks.

One of the markets will be at the Seaport itself and the other will be close by in the so-called Tin Building that was home to the old Fulton Fish Market.
Under the agreement, the markets will be open all year, seven days per week.
"They'll be fish and a whole lot more -- that New Yorkers and tourists will be able to come down and get every day of the week, every day of the year, further cementing New York as the food and fish capital of the world," Quinn said.
Quinn said the markets will also be a strong boost to the economy.
"They're places that create jobs and they generate greater foot traffic, boosting the economy for the businesses in the market and all of the businesses that surround the market," she said.
