NYC Alternate Side Parking Rules Back In Effect
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Drivers in New York City once again have to pay attention to which side of the street they park on. For the first time in three weeks, alternate side parking rules are back in effect Monday.
Several snowstorms forced city officials to suspend the rules for much of February, but now enough snow has either been removed or has melted.
NYC Alternate Side Parking Rules Back In Effect
The Department of Transportation said it will be easier to clear away any remaining snow with the rules back in effect.
While some drivers may consider it inconvenient, others say it's about time.
"It was a good thing to just leave the car home," said driver Keith Bradshaw of Bushwick.
"Moving the car twice a week can be a hassle in terms of work, so it's been really good to not have to move the car for a few weeks," said driver Richard Vernon of the West Village.
"I think it's good if they're going to plow the snow instead of just sending the street cleaner down the street," Upper West Side resident Linda Faulisi told WCBS 880's Peter Haskell.
"It's so gross, I mean it's so hard walking around with the piles of trash and all this stuff everywhere, it's been driving me absolutely crazy, so I'm really happy that they started," West Village resident Tiffany Leung told CBS 2's Elise Finch.
As cars cleared out in the West Village on Monday morning, street sweepers and snow plows moved in to clear the filthy snow and trash that has accumulated over the past few weeks, and any vehicles that remained parked were quickly ticketed, Finch reported.
The clean up will continue Tuesday and will take several passes before things return to pre-snow norms.
