Nyack Revisits Idea Of Implementing Ferry Service
NYACK, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Ferry service might be the solution to an ongoing transportation problem in Rockland County, the mayor of Nyack said.
As WCBS 880's Jim Smith reported Saturday, Nyack Mayor Jen Laird said the current problem is that, "Rockland County struggles with a lack of public transportation."

And so as part of a $200,000 grant, the village received updates to its master plan and will again study the feasibility of a ferry.
"Transit is the way of the future, and we have to figure ours out," Laird said. "And we have this giant Hudson River right in our backyard, we may as well use it if it makes sense."
One option could be to ferry commuters across to Tarrytown to catch trains, while a second idea could be direct ferry service to Manhattan. Twenty years ago, talk of a ferry was met with opposition over docking points, parking and traffic.
But Laird said a lot has changed since then.
"It's a good idea to take a look at it again," she said.
The feasibility study on ferry service could take up to a year.
