NY Toll Collector Accused Of Stealing Over $16K
NEW YORK (AP) -- A New York City toll collector has been arrested on charges that he stole more than $16,000 from truck drivers on the Throgs Neck Bridge.
The Daily News said 19-year Travis Coley was released without bond Thursday after pleading not guilty to charges of grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property and falsifying business records. He faces up to seven years in prison if convicted.
Prosecutors said Coley collected the proper toll amounts from large axle vehicles, but recorded smaller amounts and kept the change.
Coley was hired as a temporary worker in May.
The scheme came undone when Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority auditors checked his data input against video recordings.
Information on Coley's lawyer was not immediately available.
