NY Prosecutors Free Woman They Say Was Framed
NEW YORK (AP) -- A New York City man is accused of trying to trying to silence an ex girlfriend who had accused him of rape by having her framed for robbery.
The woman spent six months in jail after she was accused by witnesses of robbing people at gunpoint while dressed as a police officer.
She was freed Friday after two of the witnesses acknowledged that they had made up their stories after getting payoffs from the boyfriend, Jerry Ramrattan of Queens.
Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice says the 35-year-old woman lived "a nightmare scenario."
Ramrattan pleaded not guilty to perjury and other charges. The rape case has yet to come to trial.
His attorney, James Kilduff, tells Newsday there "is no credible evidence" against his client.
