NY Jewelry Designer Donating All Proceeds From 'B Strong' Bracelets To Boston Charity
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - A New York-based jewelry maker, inspired by the tragedy in Boston, has designed a B Strong charm bracelet with all proceeds going to charity.
Danielle Stevens of Danielle Stevens Jewelry said she felt compelled to do something to help out after hearing about the Boston Marathon bombings last Monday.
"When I got home and watched the reality of this awful tragedy, my brain went into action and all I could think was 'how can I help? How can we be strong for Boston?' Just like that, it was clear as to what I needed to design," Stevens told CBSNewYork.com.
In the days since the B Strong bracelets were introduced, more than 1,000 have been ordered.
"I was Googling which charities were responding immediately to help victims and families affected by the bombing, and The One Fund Boston, formed by Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick and Boston Mayor Tom Menino, was the answer," said Stevens.

Stevens said there are no profits gained from the sale of the B Strong bracelets, with 65 percent of all sales going to The One Fund Boston. The bracelets cost $15 using the promo code 'cbsny.'
Stevens is involved in a number of other charitable organizations, including the Charles Tillman Cornerstone Foundation, the Shelton Quarles Impact Foundation, Susan G. Komen foundation and Autism Speaks.
She also designed a bracelet to raise funds following superstorm Sandy. Stevens donated 75 percent of all sales to the Red Cross for its relief efforts.
"Additionally, I am currently collaborating with Charity Miles, an exercise app that works double-time, tracking mileage and raising money for different causes," said Stevens.
"We have been in business for 12 years and philanthropy and 'paying it forward' are the cornerstones of my company. I strongly believe if I can design a piece that will in turn touch someone's life through a message or a donation to a cause, then that is what it's truly about," Stevens told CBSNewYork.com.
As of Tuesday afternoon, Mayor Menino announced the One Fund Boston has raised $20 million.
