NY Girl Scout Troops Will Use Day Off To Help Families Affected By Sandy
NEW YORK (AP) -- Girl Scouts troops in New York City will be selling cookies for one day to give to families affected by Superstorm Sandy.
The scouts will be stationed at 25 corporate offices and public venues on Monday, when schools are closed for Veterans Day.
People also can buy cookies for themselves.
Any extra money collected during the event will be donated to recovery efforts through the Mayor's Fund to Advance New York City.
The idea came about when after Staten Island Troop 5327 volunteered in the Ocean Breeze area of Staten Island. Many residents devastated by the storm were requesting Girl Scout cookies.
Monday's event is part of the organization's Corporate Cookie Connection program.
There's a list of locations at www.girlscountsnyc.org.
