Nunez Recalled By Yankees, Inserted Into Starting Lineup
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) — The New York Yankees have promoted Eduardo Nunez from Triple-A and manager Joe Girardi placed him into Saturday's starting lineup against the Baltimore Orioles.
Nunez was listed as the designated hitter Saturday. He has previously played the infield and outfield for the AL East-leading Yankees. His fielding was a weakness wherever he was positioned, but is regarded as a promising hitter.
Before his May 11 demotion, Nunez was hitting .294 with o home runs, 5 RBIs and 6 stolen bases in 20 major league games.
Nunez was among six players promoted from the minors as the big league roster expanded. Right-handers Cory Wade and Adam Warren, lefty Justin Thomas and catcher Francisco Cervelli were recalled from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Outfielder Chris Dickerson was added to the roster and infielder Ramiro Pena was designated for assignment.
