Police Investigate Multiple Vehicle Crash That Left North Babylon Man Critical
NORTH BABYLON, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Police in Suffolk County are investigating a multiple-vehicle crash that seriously injured a North Babylon man Sunday.
The drivers of a Sunset taxi cab, a Ford Explorer and a Lindy's taxi cab were traveling southbound on Route 231 when they, apparently lost control of their vehicles and struck a guardrail at the Sunrise Highway overpass in North Babylon at approximately 4:50 a.m.
Moments later, a Jeep Wrangler, which was also traveling south on Route 231, struck the Lindy's taxi.
A fifth vehicle, a Kia Rio, also traveling south on Route 231, then struck the Jeep.
A sixth vehicle, a Wyandanch-Wheatley Heights Ambulance, also traveling south on Route 231 struck the Jeep and the Kia, as well as their drivers, who were outside of their vehicles inspecting the damage when the collision occurred.
The Jeep driver, Scott Robb, 38, was airlifted to Stony Brook University Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition.
The driver of the Kia, Michael Liccesse, 45 of West Meadow, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip and admitted in stable condition.
The driver of the ambulance, Anthony Maiello, 48, of North Babylon was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The one year old patient being transported in the ambulance suffered minor lacerations as a result of the crash and was admitted to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center. The boy's parents, Armand Lamorissieri, 28, and Graceshell Eaton, 23, both of Wyandanch, were treated at Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center for minor injuries.
The driver of the Sunset taxi, Davion Morris, 32, of Brentwood, the driver of the Ford Explorer, Vera Miller, 37, of Coram and the driver of the Lindy's taxi, Stuart Meyers, 54, of Babylon, were not injured.
The Jeep, Kia and ambulance were impounded for safety checks and the investigation is continuing.
