NEW YORK (WCBS 880) - At the St. George Staten Island Ferry Terminal, not a Christmas tree nor menorah nor nativity scene can be seen. You would never know it's the holiday season.

The New York City Department of Transportation says this is for safety, but commuters call it just plain mean.

"It sure does stink," said one woman on Thursday morning.
"For a while now, Christmas has been put on the downside and I think it's ridiculous," said a man.
"I would tell the city, you know what, just take one corner, display it, and wish everybody Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, happy Kwanzaa, Happy Chanukah, the whole bit," said another commuter.
Folks don't buy the safety explanation. They believe it's a knee-jerk to the annual debate regarding holiday decorations and the separation of church and state.
