No Debates Planned For GOP Candidates For Governor
NEW YORK (AP) -- The candidates in the heated Republican primary for governor will each be in a candidates' forum on Aug. 30, but half-a-state apart.
Republican Carl Paladino has been dogging GOP designee Rick Lazio to force him into a televised debate in Syracuse that night. But the frontrunning Lazio is now scheduled that night for a candidates' forum in Manhattan.
Lazio for weeks has said he was still considering the invitation to face Paladino at the Syracuse debate scheduled by YNN and NY1 television.
David Webb said Tuesday that Lazio agreed two weeks ago to appear at the candidates' forum in Manhattan held by the group called TeaParty365. He said Paladino declined because of a schedule conflict.
Paladino spokesman Michael Caputo says Lazio doesn't have the guts to face Paladino.
