'No Blue' Washed Out: Campaign Against Rangers Fans Dumped From Devils' Website
NEW YORK (WFAN) -- So much for "No Blue."
The Devils recently launched an online campaign to keep Rangers fans out of the Prudential Center in Newark. The approach was three-pronged:
1. Absentee ticket holders for any games at "The Rock" should not list their seats on the secondary market. Instead, negotiate with like-minded fans on well-known Devils blogs.
2. Unsure about No. 1? The Devils Fan Experience Team line at 855-DEV-ARMY would try to facilitate a purchase.
3. Devils fans should gobble up remaining tickets on the secondary market.
The page on the team's official website went viral -- #noblue was even trending on Twitter -- and now it's nowhere to be seen. Instead there's a relatively benign page urging Devils fans to "protect home ice."
New Jersey general manager Lou Lamoriello told the New York Daily News he was "very disappointed, very disappointed personally," with the original promotion. He added that Rangers fans who plan to make the short trek to Newark should feel comfortable at the arena.
"Every fan should feel safe coming to games here," Lamoriello told the Daily News. "Every fan."
On the other end of the ice, the Rangers countered with a free Delta flight from LaGuardia to Newark for Game 3 on Saturday. The best-of-seven Eastern Conference finals is knotted at one game apiece.
