No A Train Service North Of 168th Street During Overnight Hours This Week
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A Train commuters in the Washington Heights and Inwood sections of Manhattan will need to find alternate means of transportation during the overnight hours this week.
Beginning Monday night, the A Train will stop running at 168th Street between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., and there will be no service between 168th and 207th streets.
The work will continue between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. every night through Thursday night into Friday morning.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority advises taking the No. 1 Train – which runs parallel to the A Train a few blocks to the east on that particular stretch – or taking the M4 bus as an alternate.
The shutdown is part of the MTA's FASTRACK maintenance program, which involves shutting down part of a subway line for repairs and upgrades to tracks, signals, cables, lighting and other components of the system.
The MTA said FASTRACK allows crews to work more productively, and the efficiencies of the program saved $16.7 million in 2012. The program has also cut the accident rate for employees, the MTA said.
