No. 7 Train Suspended West Of Queensboro Plaza For Next 4 Weekends
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Riders of the No. 7 train will need to plan for a detour this weekend, and for the next four weekends to come.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority said service on the No. 7 Train will be suspended between Times Square-42nd Street in Queensboro Plaza, meaning the No. 7 train will not come into Manhattan at all.
The suspension begins at 2 a.m. Saturday and runs through 5 a.m. Monday, and will also be in effect the weekends beginning Saturday, Jan. 24; Friday, Jan. 30; and Friday, Feb. 6.
Even broader service changes will also be in effect the weekends beginning Feb. 27 and March 6. Suspensions will be in effect from Times Square-42nd Street to 74th Street-Broadway in Jackson Heights.
Service will also be suspended west of Hunters Point Avenue the weekends of March 14, March 21, and March 28.
The suspensions are intended to allow for work on three capital improvement projects on the line. They include the installation of a new communications-based train control system, replacement of the tracks on the elevated portion of the line, and the reconstruction and fortification of the Steinway tubes that carry the line under the East River.
The MTA said the project will bring a state-of-the-art signal system and reliable and resilient infrastructure to the line.
