NJ's Toms River Squad Reaches Little League World Series

BRISTOL, Conn. (AP) — Toms River National has become the first team from New Jersey in 11 years to advance to the Little League World Series.

The team beat Pennsylvania's Council Rock-Newton 8-5 on Monday night in the Mid-Atlantic Regional championship. They will take on Hamilton, Ohio, on Saturday morning in the first game of the series.

Council Rock struck early, scoring two runs in each of the first two innings. But Toms River rallied in the bottom of the second, scoring four runs to take a 5-4 lead. They never trailed again.

Homers by Patrick Marinaccio and Michael Tiplady pushed Toms River's advantage to 8-4 and sealed the victory.

Council Rock pitcher Seth Leuz had six strikeouts and allowed four runs in three innings.
