NJ Woman Pleads Guilty In Fatal Hit-And-Run
MAYS LANDING, N.J. (AP) -- A southern New Jersey woman faces 14 years in state prison after admitting she killed a man in a hit-and-run accident while driving drunk.
Linda Demarest pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of an accident charges in the July 2010 crash in Buena Vista Township. She admitted hitting 38-year-old David Brown of Newfield, who was attending to his vehicle when he was struck.
Atlantic County prosecutors say the 51-year-old Demarest drove to her nearby home after the accident. And when state police arrived there a short time later, she tried to drive away but crashed into a telephone pole.
Demarest will have to serve 85 percent of her term before becoming eligible for parole. And her driver's license will be suspended for 10 years once she's freed.
