NJ TRANSIT Service Resumes Following Near System Wide Suspension
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- It was a longer commute than normal for some NJ TRANSIT train riders Tuesday morning after a signal problem forced a near system wide suspension.
Around 9 a.m. Tuesday, NJ TRANSIT's Rail Operations Center experienced a problem with both computer servers that control signals on all NJ TRANSIT lines, officials said.
As a precaution, service on all lines except the Northeast Corridor was suspended as crews worked to fix the problem, NJ TRANSIT said.
Just before 10:30 a.m., service had resumed on all lines, with delays of up to an hour, NJ TRANSIT said.
As of noon, NJ TRANSIT said train service was operating on or close to schedule with a few residual delays.
Many riders arriving at the PATH station in midtown told CBS 2's Tamara Leitner the delays are simply part of commuting and used the time to work on their Blackberries, read and even sleep.
"It's frustrating, but it's part of life," said Dennis Letsche, of Rutherford, N.J.
"I just sat on the train, there's nothing I could do," said Steven Oliver, of Horthorn, N.Y.
Cross-honoring was in effect on NJ TRANSIT bus, rail and light rail and PATH as well as on private bus carriers.
The Northeast Corridor was not affected because it's operated by Amtrak.
