NJ TRANSIT Service Back To Pre-Sandy Levels Into NYC
NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- For the first time since Superstorm Sandy battered trains and rail lines, NJ TRANSIT service into New York City is almost fully restored.
Systemwide, rail operations will reach 94 percent of its pre-Sandy service, operating 658 of the 700 weekday trains scheduled prior to the storm.

"I'm glad everything's back to normal now," said commuter Darrell Aaron.
Nine additional trains have also been added to the North Jersey Coast Line, restoring the line's service level to 96 percent of its pre-Sandy schedule.
"I think that they've done everything they possibly can do to bring things back to normal," said commuter Monique McSorley. "I give them so much credit in the light of everything they had to do."
The road to rebuilding was a long one for transportation officials who estimated there was $400 million of damage to NJ TRANSIT rail cars, trains and infrastructure.
NJ TRANSIT said it expects power to be restored to Hoboken Terminal by March. Flooding from Sandy destroyed a substation there, knocking out power to the terminal.
Diesel-powered trains are being used instead of electric-powered trains until electricity is fully restored.
