NJ Transit Expands Quiet Cars To Hoboken Trains
NEWARK, N.J. (AP) -- NJ Transit riders are pretty vocal about the "quiet commute'' program in which riders refrain from cellphone calls and mute their electronic devices.
The nation's third largest transit system will expand the program to trains that serve Hoboken Terminal beginning June 1.
The expansion means NJ Transit will offer quiet cars during the morning and evening rush on all lines except Atlantic City, where peak periods are not defined.
Metro-North will also include the rush-hour only quiet car on Port Jervis and Pascack Valley trains.
Metro-North President Howard Permut says the agency might expand the program to the Hudson, Harlem and New Haven lines if commuters in Orange and Rockland counties like it.
