NJ TRANSIT Expanding Wi-Fi To 30 More Stations This Year
NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Wi-Fi access will be available at about 70 NJ TRANSIT stations by the end of the year, officials said Thursday.
Currently, about 40 stations offer Wi-Fi. Larger stations such as Hoboken, Metropark and Newark Penn were outfitted first, WCBS 880's Levon Putney reported.
"We're looking to, by the end of the year, get it to 30 additional stations and then build it out throughout the system," NJ TRANSIT spokesman William Smith said. "And from there, what we're looking to do is expand onto trains."

Smith said the agency is aiming to start equipping trains next year -- but only certain cars, not the entire train.
"At this point, the priority is to get it as quickly as possible to the greatest amount of people," Smith said.
Smith said if demand calls for it, NJ TRANSIT will eventually outfit entire trains with Wi-Fi.
Wi-Fi access in the system will be available to Cablevision Optimum subscribers for no additional cost. NJ TRANSIT offers five free-day passes per device for non-Cablevision customers. After that, commuters have the option of purchasing a day pass for $4.99.
