NJ Transit Curbs Vacation Payouts
NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- NJ Transit was curbing payouts for unused vacation time.
The agency has suspended payouts to nonunion employees.
NJ Transit spokeswoman Penny Bassett-Hackett told the Asbury Park Press the action comes in response to Gov. Chris Christie's criticism of the practice.
Christie spokesman Kevin Roberts told the newspaper the administration hopes NJ Transit will end such benefits for union employees in their next contracts.
Payroll information shows NJ Transit paid $2.2 million to current and retired employees for unused vacation time in 2010 even as it raised fares and cut service.
