Fair Lawn Couple Says Evening Was Ruined When NJ Transit Bus Skipped Their Stop
FAIR LAWN, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Sometimes it pays to complain.
A couple in Bergen County missed a Broadway show when their New Jersey Transit bus didn't show, and another one drove right by them.
As CBS2's Cindy Hsu explained, the couple fought back.
Drora and Ron Kemp were disappointed after missing the Broadway show 'Skylight.' They had purchased tickets months in advance, and since it was in previews it cost them $170 for both.
On the day of the show they walked to the bus stop, a block away from their Fair Lawn home, more than two hours before show time.
When the bus didn't show up they rushed home and drove to another nearby bus stop.
They claim that when that bus came it didn't stop.
"He had no intention to stop," Ron said.
By that time, they said there was no way they'd make it to the show.
Angry and frustrated, Mrs. Kemp went to the NJ Transit's facebook page and posted a public complaint along with a copy of her tickets to the show.
She was contacted and asked to fill out an official complaint form. She said a customer representative told her they don't reimburse for such mishaps, but offered her tickets to a comedy show.
"Then they wanted to offer me tickets to some ball game," Drora said
She held her ground and asked for $330, what it would cost to see the show now. She ended up with a check for the original ticket prices of $170.
NJ Transit said that consideration for monetary reimbursement is 'extremely rare' but that they are pleased to have reached a favorable solution.
The Kemps now have tickets to see 'Skylight' on May 15. This time they plan to drive to the city.
The Kemps had to pay the full $330 for the new tickets, but said that they feel vindicated.
