Injuries Reported After NJ TRANSIT Bus Crashes Into Tree In Newark
NEWARK (CBSNewYork) - An NJ TRANSIT bus with about 31 passengers aboard crashed into a tree Monday afternoon.
The accident took place just before 2 p.m. at Wainwright Street and Lyons Avenue.
According to New Jersey Transit, about 31 people were on board when the accident occurred.
Witness Lori Childs said she was shopping nearby when she heard the collision.
"I ran out of the store along with one of the workers in the store and people were jumping out of the windows, trying to get out and they were just falling on the ground, a lady actually fell in to my arms," Childs told CBS2's Valerie Castro.
"When I looked out the window from the store, I saw the side of the bus -- the whole passenger side -- like sheared off," one witness told 1010 WINS' Al Jones. "The door was missing, windshield was missing."
Police said 25 people were treated for non-life threatening injuries, including the driver.
The #37 bus was going from Newark Airport to Ivy Hill.
