NJ TRANSIT Braces For Potential Delays As Andrea Heads North
NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- NJ TRANSIT is getting ready for potential delays and service disruptions for the Friday evening rush hour as Tropical Storm Andrea moves up the eastern seaboard, bringing several inches of rain to the Garden State.
"We do expect delays, we do expect additional impacts to service due to the inclement weather," spokesman John Duros, Jr. told 1010 WINS.
NJ TRANSIT is offering full system wide cross-honoring through midnight to give customers additional travel options.
"This is going to be a storm with a significant amount of rain, flooding is expected particularly in some low-lying areas," Durso said. "There will be impacts to service and we want our customers to be prepared, we want them to have additional options."

The National Weather Service said rainfall amounts between 2 and 4 inches are possible with isolated amounts near 5 inches. The rain will result in flooding of some roadways and the possibility of river flooding increases when amounts exceed 3 inches.
NJ TRANSIT is advising its customers to leave work early Friday, if possible.
"All weather forecasts show that the brunt of the storm will be hitting during the evening commute," Durso said. "NJ TRANSIT is committed to ensuring that all of our customers are able to get home in a safe and secure manner."
Durso said NJ TRANSIT has been monitoring the storm for the past 48 hours and has taken a number of preventative measures.
The agency has been inspecting culverts, drainage pipes and rights-of-ways to ensure they are clear of blockages, crews have been strategically placed to respond to falling trees, and additional customer service representatives are on hand at a number of major hubs.
