Driver Injured When NJ TRANSIT Train Strikes Car In Paterson, N.J.
PATERSON, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A driver was hospitalized Thursday night after an NJ TRANSIT train struck a vehicle in Paterson, New Jersey.
The accident happened around 7:30 p.m. at the Fifth Avenue Grade Crossing near Wait Street, NJ TRANSIT confirmed to CBS2.
Sources told 1010 WINS the driver tried to beat the train and did not make it. NJ TRANSIT spokeswoman Nancy Snyder told CBS2 a gate had come down across the train tracks and was working properly.
The driver, a man, was taken to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center in Paterson in an unknown condition, NJ TRANSIT said.
There were 400 people on the train – including passengers and crewmembers – at the time. None of them were injured, NJ TRANSIT said.
