NJ Senate To Hold Family Planning Override Vote
TRENTON, N.J. (AP) -- Democrats in the New Jersey Senate Monday will hold a longshot vote to restore $7.5 million in funding to 58 women's health clinics.
Gov. Chris Christie eliminated the money from this year's budget then vetoed a funding restoration bill the Democrats sent him.
Republicans who voted for the original bill have said they won't defy the governor. Four Senate Republicans would have to support an override to reach the required 27 votes.
The Assembly won't get to consider the bill unless the Senate passes it.
The bill specifies the money for the clinics be taken from a state employee prescription drug program, which sponsors say is overfunded.
The governor's office has disputed whether there's as much extra money in that fund as the Democrats say.
