WCBS 880's Monica Miller reports

Sen. Robert Singer says it should be applied to those convicted of murdering a child, killing a police officer in the line of duty, or committing a fatal terrorist attack.

The Ocean County Republican represents Lakewood, where Patrolman Christopher Matlosz was gunned down earlier this month as he sat in his patrol car.

Singer says ten police officers in the United States have been killed by gunfire in the line of duty this year.

New Jersey's death penalty was repealed in 2007 by former Gov. Jon Corzine.

Gov. Chris Christie, a former federal prosecutor who supports the death penalty, said he would sign the bill if it ever made it to his desk.
