NJ Model Accused Of Giving Unlicensed Butt Injections
NEWARK, N.J. (CBS 2) -- Kim Kardashian, Beyonce and Jennifer Lopez are celebrities famous for at least one asset many women covet -- their derrieres.
That in turn has prompted many to seek a similar look -- sometimes from those have no business promising those kinds of results.
Authorities said Anivia Cruz Dilworth was such a person, CBS 2's Sean Hennessey reported.
"In no way is she a medical doctor and in no way did she receive the education or training to perform these medical procedures," Essex County Prosecutor Peter Sepulveda said.
But Sepulveda said that didn't stop the model and cosmetic queen from injecting women with something to augment their buttocks for a fraction of the standard price.
"It would cost anywhere from $10,000 to $15,000 and they were paying anywhere between $650 and $1,200," Sepulveda said.
But it came at a steep cost. Some of the women were hospitalized with severe infections needing multiple surgeries.
"She took these young ladies' lives into her hands." Sepulveda said.
Investigators said Cruz Dilworth usually went to the homes of her customers, but sometimes had them come to her New Brunswick apartment.
So far, just three women are listed in the indictment against Cruz Dilworth.
There may have been considerably more victims, prosecutors said. However some, even while suffering in a hospital bed, didn't want to speak to investigators and have their names publicly associated with the procedure.
Cruz Dilworth has been charged with three counts of unlicensed practice of medicine.
Each count carries up to five years in prison.
