NJ Man Sentenced In Fatal Stabbing Of Best Friend
HACKENSACK, N.J. (AP) -- A New Jersey man who fatally stabbed his best friend after learning the man was having a sexual relationship with his mother is headed to prison.
Alvin Dula of Newark must serve at least 85 percent of the 23-year sentence he received Friday before becoming eligible for parole.
The 22-year-old Dula was on trial for murder in October when he pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter in the April 2007 death of 18-year-old Joseph Hanley.
Bergen County prosecutors say the pair were at the Hackensack apartment of Dula's mother when they started arguing. Dula then stabbed Hanley 20 times in the head, neck, chest and back before fleeing.
Dula and Hanley had been friends since childhood and were sharing an apartment in Newark at the time of the slaying.
