NJ Income Tax Refunds To Be Sent Later This Month
TRENTON, N.J. (CBSNewYork) - A lot of tax filers in New Jersey have been waiting at least three months to get their state refunds.
As WCBS 880's Levon Putney reported, roughly three percent of total filers, about 150,000 people, still have not had their refunds processed.
Most of the returns held up are either filed on paper and handwritten or filed by a non-resident, according to state officials.

"Due to the fact that we've been transitioning from an older computer system to a newer system this year that won't upgrade our processing abilities. But in the meantime, there have been some particular types of returns that we've had to handle manually and that's taken a longer time," State Treasury spokesman Bill Quinn told Putney.
Quinn added when the new computer system is in place, they will not have these problems next year.
The state announced it is expecting to send out the last tax refunds by the end of next month.
Similar delays were also affecting a number of New York taxpayers who filed paper returns. The state said earlier this week all the refunds will be sent out by August and will include interest for the delay.
