NJ Driver Gets 5 Years After Crashing That Injured 2 Children
FREEHOLD, N.J. (AP) -- A New Jersey driver who led police on a high-speed pursuit that ended in a crash that injured two children has been sentenced to five years in state prison.
Justin Bello of Jersey City must serve 85 percent of the term imposed Friday before becoming eligible for parole.
Bello and four other men had gone to a Freehold Township home in May 2010 to collect money for drugs. One of the men pointed a loaded gun at the victim during the confrontation, and the group fled in a sport utility vehicle when they learned police had been called.
Bello was driving the SUV, which reached speeds nearing 100 mph before it collided with another vehicle. Two young brothers in the latter vehicle were seriously injured in the crash.
