NJ Corrections Officer Who Allegedly Brought Heroin To Prison Gets Bail Reduction
BRIDGETON, N.J. (AP) -- Bail has been reduced for a suspended corrections officer accused of bringing heroin to a state prison in southern New Jersey and distributing it to inmates.
A judge agreed to lower Nazair Bey's bail from $150,000 cash to $50,000 during a hearing Friday afternoon.
The 36-year-old Pittsgrove man was arrested earlier this month after a seven-month investigation by state and Cumberland County officials. He has been a corrections officer since January 2001 and had been stationed at Bayside state prison in Maurice River Township since January 2006.
Prosecutors won't say how much heroin Bey allegedly supplied or how the drug sales were conducted. He's been charged with drug possession and distribution, conspiracy and official misconduct, and was suspended without pay this week.
Officials say Bey has not yet posted bail.
