Nick Tropeano And Matthew Colantonio, Both Long Island Natives, Picked In MLB Draft
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A pitcher from Suffolk and a catcher from Nassau have had dreams of making the big leagues. Now they're one step closer.
The San Diego Padres picked Garden City catcher, 22-year-old Matthew Colantonio, who played at Chaminade High School and Brown.
Nick Tropeano, 20, a star pitcher from West Islip who played for Stony Brook University, was drafted this week by the Houston Astros.
"When I got that phone call, I just said, wow that was awesome. I was ecstatic," said Tropeano.

Tropeano says these drafts show baseball dreams can come true.
"I started playing ball when I was probably 5-years-old and I loved every aspect of it. Throughout my whole life, I've been working real hard. Just to get that phone call and to get my name called, just saying all my hard work paid off," said Tropeano.
The Astros are flying him out Sunday to start training.
