Newtown Wants End To Events Related To Massacre
NEWTOWN, Conn. (CBSNewYork/AP) - Newtown's first selectman is asking organizations and individuals to refrain from holding any more special events in the town as it attempts to heal from December's shooting at the Sandy Hook Elementary school.
First Selectman Pat Llodra said in a blog post on the website onenewtown.org that while the community is thankful for the outpouring of support, she believes the time is coming for the town to ``move into a quiet period of rest, recuperation, and healing.''

Numerous concerts, sports clinics and celebrity visits have been held for the children and families of Newtown in the months following the shooting that took the lives of 20 children and six educators.
Llodra said Newtown will decline any further special events not already on the schedule or being planned for July and August.
This Sunday's Newtown Day at Yankee Stadium will go on as scheduled, WCBS 880 Connecticut Bureau Chief Fran Schneidau reported Tuesday.
Llodra concluded her post by saying "Newtown has always been a nurturing community-oriented town and we will continue to develop and deliver programs of growth and excellence for all of our citizens to enjoy."
