Newtown Seeks Standardized Test Waiver For Sandy Hook Students
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - The Newtown, Conn. school board has asked the federal government to waive the standardized test requirement for students from Sandy Hook Elementary School.
Five out of the seven board members voted in favor of asking for a federal waiver from the Connecticut mastery tests in March.
Of mixed opinion is School Superintendent Janet Robinson, who is not a member of the school board.
"The students may not be in the right frame of mind," she told WCBS 880 reporter Monica Miller.

But she said they'll loose valuable data if the third through eighth grade studnets don't take the annual exam.
"Usually, when we get the data back, we not only look at how students performed individually in groups, but we also look overall," she said.
The Sandy Hook students are currently attending class at a former middle school in nearby Monroe.
"We've had mental health professionals available for the staff and the children and we continue to meet their needs as best we can," Robinson said. "We have an amazing group of teachers, an amazing group of parents, and the kids pick up their cues from the adults."
