Newtown School District Elects New Superintendent
NEWTOWN, Conn. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- The Newtown School District has a new superintendent.
Education officials named Joseph Erardi Jr. as the new superintendent of Newtown public schools.
School and community leaders officially announced the selection at a meeting held Friday night, the News-Times reported.
Erardi is taking over a district that is still grappling with the aftermath of the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, which left 20 children and six educators dead.
Erardi served for eight years as superintendent in Southington. He is expected to begin at Newtown in April, replacing interim Superintendent John Reed.
The new superintendent has expressed his desire to move past the school shooting, saying "I am respectful for the past, ready to work hard in the present, and very excited for the future.''
