Newtown Marches On As Large Crowds Attend Annual Labor Day Parade
NEWTOWN, Conn. (CBSNewYork) -- Unlike previous years, Monday's annual Labor Day parade in Newtown, Conn., featured no musket fire or sounds of police sirens.
The traditional event, held on Newtown's Main Street, was a show of unity and resilience, 1010 WINS' Al Jones reported.
While area residents questioned if holding a bustling, celebratory parade was appropriate after last year's school massacre, the gathering boasted a larger-than-usual crowd.

Parade-goer Michael Unger said the number of people at the event sent a strong message.
"Life goes on and bounces back with resilience and strength," he said. "You cannot deny the loss that has happened, but you can't let it stop you, otherwise the bad forces win."
Walking at the front of the parade with Gov. Dannel Malloy and both of the state's U.S. senators was Newtown First Selectwoman Pat Llodra.
"We truly are all in this together," she said. "We understand that and support each other under all circumstances. And we're recovering."
