Newtown Advocates Begin Annual Bike Ride To Washington D.C.
NEWTOWN, Conn. (CBSNewYork/AP) - Advocates of tougher measures on gun control are kicking off a third annual bike ride from Newtown to Washington.
The group, Team 26, set out Saturday morning on the 400-mile ride that is expected to take them four days.
"In the days following the shootings, the school down the road where my daughter went to school, we all decided that we needed to do something," Monte Frank told WCBS 880's Monica Miller.
Frank is a lawyer and founder of Team 26.
The 26 cyclists are drawing attention to their campaign for measures including requiring all gun sales to be subject to a background check and a ban on high-capacity magazines.

"This is about America coming together, uniting because every life, every gun death is one too many," Frank said.
The group is planning stops along the way in Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland.
The ride will end at the steps of the U.S. Capitol Building.
Frank said the cold, wind and snow are making it a challenging ride, but it will be worth it if federal lawmakers hear what they have to say.
