With More Than 200 People Shot This Year, Newark Residents Say City Crime Is Getting Worse
NEWARK, NJ (1010 WINS) -- Many Newark residents say the city's Safe City campaign isn't working.
So far this year, there have been more than 175 shootings in Newark, leaving more than 200 people killed or injured.

In June, Mayor Cory Booker announced the city would be beefing up security with more officers on the streets and stricter curfew enforcement this summer.
While Newark's acting police director Samuel DeMaio claims the campaign is working, residents say the streets don't seem any safer.
"I'm listening all night long to sirens and stuff, people getting shot," said one woman who has lived in Newark for almost half a century.
One man said residents are like prisoners in their own homes.
Last week, City Council approved a measure requiring fast food restaurants open after 9 pm to post armed guards
