Newark Police Search For Van Involved In Possible Abduction

NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Police in Newark are seeking the public's help identifying a van that might have been involved in an abduction Saturday morning.

Police received a report around 9:20 a.m. that a man physically forced a woman into the van and drove away.

The woman was walking south on Mulberry Street when the van, traveling north, stopped at Edison Place, police said. The woman approached the passenger side of the van and briefly spoke with the driver.

Police said the woman walked away, but the driver got out of the van and pushed her into the passenger side. He got back into the vehicle, made a U-turn, and drove onto McCarter Highway.

The driver was described as a black man, approximately 6 feet 2 inches tall, wearing a black jacket, white shirt, blue jeans or dark colored pants.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Newark Police Department's 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477) or 1-877-NWK-GUNS (1-877-695-4867).
