Newark Mayor Cory Booker Helps Pedestrian Struck By Car

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Is Cory Booker Superman?

It appears that Newark's mayor was at the right place at the right time once again when he came to the aid of a man struck by a car.

The incident happened Thursday morning as Booker and his detail were traveling back from a graduation ceremony Booker spoke at.

Booker posted the following messages about the incident on Twitter:

At that point, police had arrived at the scene. Booker got out of his car and spotted a man in his 50s, bleeding profusely from his head, and lying in the street, unconscious.

Booker ran to the man's side, held his hand and began to talk to him, according to his office. The man soon roused, recognized his voice and said, "Are you Mayor Booker?"

This isn't the first time Booker came to the aid of one of his residents.

Booker was hospitalized for a few hours in April after he and two members of his security detail attempted to rescue next-door neighbors trapped in a burning home in the Upper Clinton Hill neighborhood on Hawthorne Avenue.

Booker, who had just returned home from a television appearance, and the members of his detail went into the home to offer assistance just before 8:30 p.m.

Booker was later taken to a local hospital suffering from smoke inhalation and second-degree burns on his hand.
