United Airlines Crew Reports That 'Laser Illuminated' Aircraft En Route To Newark Airport
NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- The crew of a Newark Airport bound United Airlines flight reported that their aircraft was illuminated with a laser on Tuesday night.
"Just got lasered," a crew member can be heard saying to a control tower.
The incident happened when the plane was around 3,000 feet, according to audio heard on LiveATC.net.
According to a statement released by the FAA, the incident took place 14 miles southwest of Newark.
"The crew of United Airlines 1550, an Airbus A319, reported that a laser illuminated the aircraft when it was 14 miles southwest of Newark Liberty International Airport at 7:25 p.m. tonight."
The plane landed safely, and no injuries were reported.
Local authorities have been notified, and will investigate.
