On Sunday, the entire park was open with special sights for visitors.
As CBS 2's Scott Rapoport reported, it was a celebration of a bygone past, a time when everyone was thinking about the future.
Thousands came out to mark the 50th and 75th anniversaries of the World's Fair at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, just as they did in 1964 and 1939.
"I'm 61-years-old now, and I'm back again to see it one more time before I die," Jose Figueroa said.
The park was a sea of memorabilia and memories. The famed New York State Pavilion, has been designated a National Treasure and opened for the young and not-so-young-anymore to see and remember.
"It's an amazing part of New York history," Ruth Feingold said.
Gilmore Clarke, the designer of the famed 140-ft tall, 350-ton unisphere, was remembered as well. His widow Delores was presented with a proclamation of achievement from the New York State Assembly in his honor.
"I'm so thrilled because Gil deserves every honor that he could receive," she said.
In 1964 the fair drew 51-million visitors, who gazed at incredible new innovations like the world's first picture phone.
At the time the fair was a symbol of optimism and hope. Now, a piece of that past has been experienced once again by those who remember, and those who won't soon forget.
