New York Yankees Release Veteran Outfielder Matt Diaz Following Under-Performing Spring Training
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- According to their official website, the New York Yankees have released veteran outfielder Matt Diaz.
The 35-year-old corner outfielder was signed on December 26 as a non-roster invitee.
Through 13 spring training games, Diaz batted .200 with no home runs and 2 RBIs in 30 at-bats. His under-performance and the Yankees recent signing of Brennan Boesch paved the way for Diaz's release.
Diaz is a career .291 batter with 45 lifetime home runs and 225 RBIs in 726 MLB regular season games.
