New York weather maps show rain, thunderstorms return this week

First Alert Weather: Tracking rain this week 04:26

After a pretty dry weekend, the rain's making a comeback – and potentially in buckets.

The better part of today should remain dry with perhaps a shower or thunderstorm through the afternoon commute, but mainly inland. The odds will go up tonight, however, with a batch of showers and embedded thunderstorms expected to move through. Any storms, though mainly isolated and sub-severe, will be capable of dumping a lot of rain in a short period of time, so flooding will be possible.

Heading into tomorrow, things will likely start off a little wet, but some sunshine should breakout thereafter. With daytime heating, however, this will allow for isolated showers and thunderstorms to develop once again. The good news is, the activity looks mainly isolated to scattered, so odds are you'll be spared.

Unfortunately, showers and thunderstorms will remain in the forecast through the end of the week, so plan on packing the umbrella each day.

So when do we see a break in the pattern? Well, as of now it looks like Friday offers the most hope with sunshine, seasonal temperatures and less humid conditions.
