'Exclusive' Hamptons Zip Code Named 2nd Most Expensive Place To Live
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- It's a well-known fact that New York has some of the most prime real estate -- and according to Forbes, the state is home to some of the priciest zip codes in the country.
Three New York zip codes make up the list's top five most expensive places to live.
Sagaponack, a village in the Hamptons, took the number two spot -- with an average home price of $7.4 million. Northern California's Atherton zip code -- 94027 -- takes the top spot, with the average home price resting at $10.5 million, CBS2's Emily Smith reported.
"There's only one Sagaponack, and its very exclusive for the uber rich," Victoria Shtainer, of Compass Real Estate, said.
Manhattan's Greenwich Village (10012) and Soho/Tribeca (10013) zip codes took the third and fifth spots on the list.
"It shows that people with wealth want to be here, want to live here, want to work here," Shtainer said. "And of course, invest their money here."
The most expensive home in New York's most expensive zip code is the Puck penthouse -- a 12,000 square-foot home in the Puck Building on Lafayette Street, in a neighborhood where homes typically average around $7.3 million.
New Jersey made it to the list with Alpine coming in at number 12, where the average price for homes is $4.8 million. That's two spots higher than Beverly Hills, a popular neighborhood for California's rich and famous.
"The houses in Alpine are a minimum of ten acres," Shtainer said. "So on ten acres you have your tennis courts -- you basically have a resort for yourself."
Greenwich, Conn., known for its mega mansions and estates, placed at number 50 on the list, with a home price average of around $3 million.
